Fun With Fido

December 15, 2015

Does your dog look bored lately? Is Fido’s routine the same every day? Just like us, dogs love to have fun! In this article, a Louisville, CO vet offers some ideas for fun things you can do with your canine pal.

Agility Training

Agility training can help Fido gain confidence and burn excess energy, and it can also keep him in great shape. Teaching your dog to weave between poles or navigate ramps, balance beams, and tunnels can be fun for both of you!

Obedience Training

Many dogs enjoy learning new things! All dogs should know at least the five basic commands, which are Sit , Stay , Heel , Come , and Lay Down . Once Fido has mastered these, you can move on to other commands, such as Drop It .

Tricks

Fido can learn some super cute tricks! You can show your furry pal some fun classic dog tricks, like Roll Over , Play Dead , Sing , or Shake Paws , or find an adorable unconventional trick, like Gimme Five .

Sports

Did you know that there are many sports just for dogs? From Frisbee to dock jumping to freestyle dancing, there are lots of activities your canine buddy may enjoy. Do you like skiing? Consider skijoring, which is when Fido pulls you along on skis.

Camping

Everybody needs to get away now and then to refresh and recharge. Man’s Best Friend can make a great camping buddy! Consider taking your pup on a camping trip.

Dog Cafes

There are doggy cafes popping up all over the country. Many restaurants also allow dogs in outdoor seating areas. Take Fido out for a special treat!

Photo Session

Our canine buddies can be quite photogenic! Have a friend take some action shots of you and Fido playing tag or fetch.

Safety

Before taking Fido on any excursions, be sure he’s current on all shots, and has mastered the basic doggy obedience commands mentioned earlier. Vigorous activity isn’t suitable for all dogs, so check with your vet before proceeding. Remember to always bring water for your pooch, and pick up after him!
