How to Keep Your Cat Happy

March 15, 2017

Do you have a cat? If so, you’ve probably noticed that Fluffy’s contentment can be measured in some very adorable ways, like purrs, kitty kisses, and cuddles. But what does it take to earn these precious rewards? In this article from Arapahoe Animal Hospital, your Boulder, CO vet serving Louisville and surrounding areas, a local vet tells you how to keep your feline buddy happy.

Entertainment

We know, Fluffy loves sleeping, but even the drowsiest kitty can’t sleep all the time. Make sure Fluffy has plenty of toys to smack around, and at least one comfy spot by a window with a good view. Turn a light and a radio on before leaving if you won’t be home before dark, so Fluffy isn’t left alone in a dark, quiet house.

Kitty Comforts

Cats are experts at two things: getting comfortable, and convincing us to pamper them. But what does it take to keep Fluffy comfy and cozy? Giving your furball plenty of soft beds is a great start. Making sure your pet’s litterbox is clean and easy for her to reach is also very important. As your feline buddy ages, she may have trouble jumping up to her favorite napping spots, so make it easier for her by setting out kitty stairs or pet ramps.

Veterinary Care

We know, Fluffy would much rather take another nap than come visit us. We understand that car rides and strange places can be scary for kitties, and do everything we can to keep our feline patients both calm and comfortable while they are here. However, no matter what your cat thinks about coming to see us, she’ll be much healthier with regular veterinary care. Healthy pets are happy pets!

Attention

Kitties need love to truly be happy. Spend time with your cat: play with her, talk to her, and pet her. Cuddles and compliments will also help Fluffy feel safe, secure, and cared for.

Toys

Playing will benefit Fluffy both physically and mentally. Pouncing on that catnip mouse gives your feline pal much-needed exercise, which is particularly important for aging cats. Playing also gives your furball mental stimulation, which will help keep her brain healthy in her golden years.
