4 Ways to Prevent Animal Cruelty

April is Prevention of Cruelty To Animals Month! For those of us who love animals, this is one cause that is truly near and dear to our hearts. While no one person can help every animal in need, there are some small things we can all do that will contribute to the greater good. In this article from Arapahoe Animal Hospital, your Boulder, CO vet, serving Louisville and surrounding areas, a local vet lists some ways you can help prevent animal cruelty.

Spay/Neuter

One of the best ways to promote good animal welfare is simply to spay or neuter your own pets. Two cats can have 2,072, 514 descendants in just 8 years! We know, puppies and kittens are adorable, but there are already far too many sweet pets in need of good homes. Animal shelters simply can’t keep up with the numbers of homeless pets coming through their doors.

Speak Up

If you see or hear of an animal that needs help, speak up! Alert the local ASPCA, or another institution that can help. Keep in mind that many of these places allow for anonymous tips.

Support Animal Welfare Societies

There are countless animal welfare groups and charities that are trying to help animals in need. While many of them help household pets, you can also find ones that help give larger animals, reptiles, birds, and/or exotic animals second chances. Consider donating your time, money, services, or goods to one of these benevolent societies.

Spread The Word

When it comes to helping animals, every little bit helps. Spread the word about animal rescues and/or pets that need loving homes. You never know: a simple social media post could change a pet’s life!

Adopt Forever

Many animals end up homeless or in shelters through no fault of their own. We know, sometimes unfortunate—or even heartbreaking—circumstances force people to give up their beloved pets. However, it’s still far too common for people to rehome pets for minor reasons, or for sweet older pets to be abandoned after years of faithful devotion. When you bring an animal into your home, make sure you can commit to caring for that pet for his or her entire life.

Please contact Arapahoe Animal Hospital, your local Boulder, CO vet, serving Louisville and surrounding areas, for all of your pet’s veterinary care needs. We are happy to assist!
