Earth Day With Fluffy

April 15, 2021

Earth Day is coming up April 22nd. This day is definitely near and dear to many people’s hearts. Every year, the green movement seems to pick up steam, as more and more people come onboard with efforts to preserve and protect our beautiful planet. What about Fluffy? If you tell your feline friend about this special day, she’ll probably yawn, lick her paw, and start thinking about her next nap. However, you can still get your kitty involved … even if she doesn’t know it. In this article from Arapahoe Animal Hospital, your Boulder, CO vet clinic, serving Louisville and surrounding areas, a vet lists a few ways to do that.

L itter

Consider switching over to an eco-friendly brand of cat litter. You may also want to get biodegradable bags to use for disposing of it.

Keep Kitty In

Did you know that grounding Fluffy can be very helpful for the environment? Turns out that housecats kill billions of small animals every year. Your cute little pet is actually taking a chunk out of fragile wildlife populations! Even if your feline buddy is a terrible hunter, she’ll still be safer indoors.

Grow Your Own

Have you ever considered growing your own catnip? It’s actually pretty easy. Just don’t plant too much. Otherwise, your home could become a hot spot for the neighborhood kitties!

Spay/Neuter

Pet overpopulation is a huge problem, and one that is taking up a lot of resources. There are already far too many adorable dogs and cats out there in desperate need of good homes. Make sure your furball doesn’t contribute to the issue by having unwanted litters. If Fluffy isn’t fixed yet, schedule that appointment ASAP.

Shopping

When buying products for your furry little diva, opt for things that use organic, sustainable resources. When possible, get local goods. This helps reduce shipping costs.

Upcycle

Is Fluffy ignoring that expensive multi-level cat tower you got her? Donate it to an animal shelter. No point in letting it go to waste! Another thing you can do is repurpose old things into kitty furniture. That old stepladder can make a great cat tower! (Your furball may still ignore it, but that’s besides the point.)
