DIY Cat Furniture

March 1, 2016

Cats are one of the most popular choices for pets, and with good reason. These adorable, quirky furballs are not only super cute and lovable, they’re also quite easy to care for, and can be absolutely hilarious at times. It’s no wonder that so many of us like to pamper our feline friends! One great way to spoil your kitty is to get her some cat furniture. While Fluffy won’t have many qualms about sleeping on your things, she’ll really enjoy some furnishings of her own. You don’t have to break the bank to get your feline buddy’s furniture, however. Read on for some great DIY kitty furniture ideas from Arapahoe Animal Hospital, your Boulder, CO veterinary clinic, serving Louisville and surrounding areas.

Kitty Tent

You can make Fluffy a cute little kitty tent out of an old tee shirt and a wire hangar. Fold a soft blanket inside it to make it even more inviting for your adorable pet.

Hammock

Our feline friends are experts at relaxing. Why not make Fluffy her own little hammock? You’ll need an end table with four legs, and an old towel or blanket. Cut the material so that it’s a little smaller than the tabletop, and then attach the corners to the table legs with Velcro. Voila! Instant purr.

Cat Tower

Cat towers are great for kitties: they offer Fluffy a scratching post, jungle gym, napping spot, and a great lookout point. You can make a kitty tower out of an old wooden stepladder. Just add planks to widen the steps to kitty-bed size, and then cover it with carpet and/or sisal rope. You can also use a metal storage rack.

Window Seat

Kitties love looking outside, and observing what the local birds and squirrels are doing. To make Fluffy a comfy window seat, just install a wide, sturdy shelf just below your windowsill. Add a pillow or comfy pet bed to really bring on the purrs.

Box Castle

Why not make your feline friend a box castle? Look online for some great design ideas. All you’ll really need to do is cut holes for doors and windows, and then glue or tape the boxes together. This is a great rainy-day project for kids!
