Did you know that there’s a very important kitty holiday coming up? June 21st is Cat World Domination Day! Are our cuddly little pets plotting against us? Is Fluffy trying to take over the world? In this article from Arapahoe Animal Hospital, your Boulder, CO vet, serving Louisville and surrounding areas, a local vet delves into the mysteries of kitty manipulation.
The Proof
If there’s one thing cats are good at—aside from napping—it’s melting our hearts. Many kitties already have their humans wrapped around their paws. That cute little meow may be a boldfaced lie! In fact, our furry companions may have started meowing just to manipulate us. Adult cats don’t have much to say to one another. They save their vocalizations for their human minions, and usually only meow when they want to give us orders. In fact, one doesn’t have to look very far to find evidence that cats have been trying to manipulate us for a long time. There’s the famous Sphinx, in Egypt, a monument from an era where our feline friends were very much revered. Kitties also got the royal treatment in ancient Siam, as well as other places. Well played, Fluffy. Well played.
The Preparations
Our feline pals may very well have been planning this all along. When Fluffy attacks that catnip mice, she’s actually working on her battle skills. That tricky wiggle/run/jump/pounce/meow combination may come in handy one day! She also is spending lots of time sleeping, so she’ll be well rested when the moment arrives. We also need to look at Fluffy’s reading and computer browsing habits. When your cat sprawls out across your book or walks over your keyboard, she may be trying to control your reading habits.
The Plans
What would happen if kitties did take over the world? Well, many of our canine pals would probably find themselves sleeping on the floor, while their feline overlords sprawled out on their beds. Fluffy may expect us to put stocked fishponds, bird feeders, and kitty gardens in every park and yard. We may also have to keep our cupboards stocked with canned tuna and salmon, and be prepared to offer cuddles, treats, and ear scratches on demand.
