7 Ways To Get Your Dog Ready For Summer

Summer is coming up quickly, and not a minute too soon. Whether your plans for the next few months include hiking, camping, swimming, travel, or all of the above, your canine pal will be more than happy to accompany you. Preventative Care 

The risk of contracting parasites or diseases is highest in the warm months, when insects and wild animals are out and about. Make sure Fido is current on his parasite control and vaccinations. You may also want to ask your vet about non-core vaccines, such as Lepto. 

ID

Your pooch should be microchipped and wearing ID tags. If you haven’t checked the chip in a while, you’ll also want to verify that his information is accurate in the database. (Note: GPS tags are a great addition here.)

Prep Summer/Emergency Gear 

Do you like going on day trips with your canine buddy? Keep a ‘doggy’ bag in the car. Include things like food, water, dishes, treats, towels, waste bags, a spare leash, and a first-aid kit. This can also double as a travel or emergency bag.

Nail Trims

Long nails can actually make it harder for Fido to walk, because they change the angle at which his toes hit the ground. This is also very uncomfortable, and can strain your pup’s bones and joints. Plus, they could snag and tear on things. Keep up with pawdicures!

Training 

Is Fido only a Very Good Boy part of the time? It may be time to head outdoors for a training refresher. If your furry pal hasn’t learned to swim yet, put that on your agenda as well. Just check with your vet first on that one, as swimming isn’t right for all dogs.
