Thanksgiving With Kitties

Can you believe that Thanksgiving is next Thursday? Of course, you probably won’t get much of a reaction from your feline friend if you tell her that. Fluffy will probably just yawn, lick her paw, and go back to sleep. Of course, when Turkey Day rolls around, your furry pal may be a bit ‘purrplexed’ by all the fuss and commotion. Food

Food is central to many holiday celebrations. Fluffy can certainly enjoy a special meal. Stick with things that are safe for your cute pet. Plain turkey, without skin, bones, or fat, is fine. Kitties can also have chicken, duck, quail, steak, beef, or seafood. However, not everything on the menu is safe for cats. Don’t offer your furball any meats that are very salty or fatty, such as ham or bacon. Other things on the no-no list include garlic and onions, chocolate, avocado, meat on the bone, and raw dough or yeast.

Decorations

Our feline pals are frisky, mischievous, and playful. That combination is as dangerous as it is adorable! A lot of smaller trinkets are choking hazards for pets. Ropy or stringy items, such as garland, twine, wires, and ribbon, are also unsafe. Candles are another concern. Keep anything that could be dangerous in spots Fluffy can’t reach.

Guests

Having company? Some kitties will barely notice the visitors, and will spread out in the middle of everyone’s way. Others will hightail it for their favorite hiding spots. If you have a scaredy-cat, set her up in a quiet back room, and let her sleep through the festivities. Otherwise, let Fluffy enjoy extra attention. Just keep an eye on her, especially if she’s underfoot.

Gratitude

To be fair, some of our feline overlords are more inclined to expressing catitude than gratitude, but don’t be fooled: Fluffy actually is very grateful for the food, love, care, tuna, catnip, toys, beds, cat furniture, lap space, boxes, and love you offer. We’re also pretty thankful for cats! While we originally befriended kitties because of their mousing abilities, we’ve fallen in love with their adorable mannerisms, cute faces, charming meows, and, well, pretty much everything else about them. Get your furry buddy something special, like a new catnip mouse, for the holiday.
