September is Happy Cat Month! Fluffy of course deserves to be happy and purring all year long, but we’re more than happy to turn our attention to keeping her content. Fortunately for us, it isn’t too hard to please our feline overlords. In this article from Arapahoe Animal Hospital, your Boulder, CO vet serving Louisville and surrounding areas, a local vet lists some simple things that get Fluffy’s motor going.
Sunbeams
Cats are not officially cold-blooded, but we’re not sure if anyone has told them that yet. Fluffy loves finding warm napping spots. Our feline friends love sunbathing!
Boxes
Fluffy is full of adorable quirks, but one of the cuter ones is her box obsession. Big boxes, small boxes, it really doesn’t matter.
Catnip
No surprises here, either. Fluffy is super cute when she’s enjoying the effects of her favorite plant!
Beds
Fluffy spends a rather exorbitant amount of time snoozing: some cats sleep up to 20 hours a day. Offering your drowsy little furball plenty of comfy napping spots to choose from can go a long way towards making your home into a luxury palace for kitties. Store-bought beds are fine, but your pet will also enjoy napping on an ottoman or storage chest with a folded blanket on top.
Playtime
No matter how hard Fluffy tries, she won’t be able to sleep 24/7. Make sure your furball has ways to amuse herself when she’s actually awake. Offer a variety of toys. Your kitty should have some things she can use by herself, as well as toys that you play with together.
Attention
The last ingredient to any great kitty care routine? Love! While some cats are rather aloof, even kitties that don’t like to cuddle enjoy interacting with and getting attention from their humans. If your furry pal is a cuddle bug, then by all means, indulge her. If Fluffy prefers to be admired from a distance, you can still make her feel loved by talking to her, playing with her, and just generally keeping her happy, comfortable, and safe.
Gold Standard
Want to really make Fluffy’s day? Put a bed in a box, and position it in a sunbeam. Then, add catnip and a few toys, and spend a few minutes petting and/or playing with your furry friend. Instant purr!
